I am a maker and artist working mainly in clay, incorporating materials and objects found and collected. I live on the south coast of England in Hastings and my current work is inspired by the landscape and seashore nearby – Pett Level, Rye Harbour, Winchelsea Beach and Dungeness – an area of remarkable coastal vegetation, nature reserves and ancient fishing and farming communities.
I like to go out walking, sketching, drawing, making notes, taking photographs – responding either alone or in the company of other artists.
Back in my studio I reflect on where I have been and recall my fleeting observations to create ceramic sculptures and drawings which portray long views, shorelines, startled life, birds, shingle plants, colours, shape and line.
I like to develop relationships with curators, gallery owners and other artists to create proposals and themes for shows and exhibitions. This has led to several landscape inspired exhibitions and residencies.
